When J. Ware, III started Green Horizons Turf Farms more than twenty years ago, he was continuing a family history of farming in Jefferson County that spans at least seven generations and dates back more than 200 years. The rich soils of the Garden of the Shenandoah Valley, combined with unique growing practices, have gained the farm an unbeatable reputation among some of the region’s top golf courses, country clubs, and prestigious landscaping firms.
Green Horizons is truly a labor of love for the entire family. After a 12-year career in the television news industry, J’s wife, Andrea, joined him full-time on the farm. And the couple’s two children, August and Edy, are a regular part of the daily farm operations.
