Mowing Basics

At Green Horizons Turf Farm, we understand the beauty and value of a well-manicured yard. Mowing, a seemingly simple task, holds the key to cultivating a breathtaking oasis right outside your doorstep. Beyond just maintaining an aesthetically pleasing landscape, regular mowing serves as a vital component in fostering the health and vitality of your yard. By adhering to a regular mowing routine, you give your grass the opportunity to thrive and flourish.

Mowing New Sod

  • You may begin mowing your new lawn at a minimum of one week after installation; the maximum wait time is two weeks. Take caution to make sure that the sod has started to tack down and take root. Don’t use a zero turn or riding mower the first 3-4 times you mow. For best results with our turf blend, mow between 2”-3.5”.

Mowing an established lawn

  • When mowing your lawn, never remove more than 1/3 of the grass blade per any cutting. For best results with our turf blend, mow between 2”-3.5”. Remember the shorter you mow, the “tighter” and thicker your grass will appear, however it requires more frequent mowing and possible watering. Sharpen mower blades regularly.
